Football for Dummies

FootballScrimmage.com gives the reader an in-depth look at both college and professional football as well as a discussion forum and tips on how to play the game. By Heather Bridges Topich.

FootballScrimmage.com attempts to provide information for a wide variety of people- from those who don’t know anything about the game to those who play the game. It has a problem with organization, though, leading one to wonder if it tries to accomplish too much by covering the game at all levels. The site would be far easier to use if reorganized into some major categories, such as Rules, Strategy, Terminology, and History. The NFL rules currently have one major section and can also be found under “Rules of the Game” and “Different Rules of Playing Football.”

As do many blogs, FootballScrimmage.com has a very basic and somewhat bland layout but is not difficult to use. It would be nice to see some graphics, possibly a matrix of the differences in rules between the sport’s variations or general look at where players line up on the field. The website has five areas: About Football, Official NFL Rules, Tip & Resources, Football Forums, and Football Links. You’ll notice the grammatical error in the third title, which, given it’s prominent location, should alert you to the fact that there are also other editorial problems to the site. I would recommend that the site owner find a good proofreader to clean up the imperfections.

Potentially one of the best areas of the site is the forum, where recent topics were “HS Football preparing young men for the rest of their lives?” and “High Tech hits player uniforms”. The article with the differences between college, NFL, and other variations of football is helpful for those who are still learning about the sport.

FootballScrimmage.com gives a good introduction to many areas of the game of football, including NFL rules, equipment worn by the players, and a history of football. Overall however, FootballScrimmage doesn’t have much to offer that couldn’t already be found in more detail elsewhere on the web.
